Retail sales consultant CV: a sample, tailored to the job

For shop-floor roles, experience is often only "preferred". What counts is a CV that shows you know customers, the till and shift work, plus whatever this particular shop is after: a language, product knowledge or sales results.

What the job ads keep asking for

  • Customer service to the company's standard.
  • Explaining products in detail and helping customers choose.
  • Displaying products to merchandising rules, price tags.
  • Working the till: cash, card, instalments.
  • Basic MS Word and Excel.
  • Shift work, often including 10:00–22:00 shifts.
  • English, often, in brand stores.

The CV almost everyone sends

A general CV, the kind most people send unchanged to every vacancy. It's only an example: the person, companies and numbers are made up.

One person, two jobs, two CVs

VacancyEnglish-speaking consultant at a jewellery brand, in a mall

Asks for: Customer contact, English, detailed product knowledge, price tags, till, 10:00–22:00 shifts.

Mariam Gelashvili

Sales consultant, English B2

Summary

Sales consultant with 3 years' experience. I serve customers in Georgian and English, set out collections to the brand standard and work shifts, including 10:00–22:00.

Experience (top bullets)

  • Serve up to 60 customers a day in Georgian and English, on shifts (including 10:00–22:00).
  • Set out new collections to the brand standard and put up price tags.
  • Work the till: cash, card, instalments; I hand over the till at shift end with no differences.

Skills: Customer service, English (B2), merchandising, till

What changed: English is in the headline because it's the vacancy's main requirement. The electronics store shrank to one line: it adds little for a jewellery brand.

VacancyConsultant at an electronics store, with a sales target

Asks for: Product knowledge of devices, a sales target, selling add-ons (warranties), till.

Mariam Gelashvili

Electronics sales consultant

Summary

Sales consultant with 3 years' experience, including an electronics store. I explain phone and laptop specs, offer warranties, and my sales have run 15–20% above the store average for 2 years.

Experience (top bullets)

  • Explained phone and laptop specs to customers and offered extended warranties.
  • My monthly sales have run 15–20% above the store average for 2 years.
  • Work the till: cash, card, instalments; I hand over the till at shift end with no differences.

Skills: Device knowledge, sales, warranty upsell, till, Excel

What changed: The electronics job, last on the general CV, moved into the summary. The sales result moved up because this vacancy comes with a target.

Before you hit send

  • You can write one without experience: volunteering, summer jobs, helping in a family business. Many vacancies list experience as "preferred", not required.
  • Be exact about languages: "English B2" or "serve tourists in English" beats "knowledge of languages".
  • If the vacancy asks you to send your CV with a set email subject (say, "Consultant, Tbilisi"), do it: some shops ignore CVs sent under any other subject.
