CV example: generic and tailored

Below are three versions of one person's CV: the generic one and two tailored to two different jobs. The experience is the same in all three. Only what comes first, and the words it's told in, change.

Example 1: the generic CV

This is Ana's CV, the one she sends to every job. It isn't bad: it's clean and it has numbers. The trouble is it doesn't answer any particular job.

Example 2: tailored to a Performance Marketing job

The ad asks for: Google Ads, Meta Ads, budget management, GA4, results analysis, A/B testing.

Ana Kapanadze
Performance Marketing Manager

Summary
Performance marketing manager with 5 years of experience. I run Google Ads
and Meta Ads campaigns with a ₾15,000 monthly budget and analyse results
in GA4. Grew online sales by 40% in one year.

Digital Marketing Specialist · City Delivery · 2020 – 2022
• Prepared weekly reports with GA4.
• Built the social media content plan.

Skills: Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, budget management, Excel

What changed: the headline matches the job title. The budget, GA4 and the result are in the summary's first lines. At City Delivery, the analytics bullet moved up. The YouTube channel came out, because this job doesn't need it.

What didn't change: any fact. The ad mentions A/B testing, but it isn't on the CV, because Ana hasn't done it. She'll say in the interview that she's keen to learn it.

Example 3: tailored to a Social Media Manager job

The ad asks for: content planning, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, video content, audience growth.

Ana Kapanadze
Social Media and Content Marketing Manager

Summary
Marketing manager with 5 years of experience in social media and content.
Built content plans at City Delivery, and grew my own YouTube channel to
12,000 subscribers in two years.

Work experience
Marketing Manager · Mziuri LLC · 2022 – present
• Lead a team of 4 that produces our social media campaigns.
• Grew online sales by 40% in one year.

Digital Marketing Specialist · City Delivery · 2020 – 2022
• Built the social media content plan.
• Prepared weekly reports with GA4.

Project: YouTube channel "Kadri" · 2021 – present
• 12,000 subscribers in two years. I plan, shoot and edit the videos myself.

Skills: content planning, video content, Meta Business Suite, Figma

What changed: the YouTube channel, cut from the first version, is the strongest argument here and moved up into the summary. The Google Ads budget details got shorter.

One note: "I shoot and edit the videos myself" goes on the CV only if it's true. In a case like this Vailo asks you first, and writes it only after you answer.

What these three examples show

  • One set of experience, several CVs. Each job is looking for something different.
  • The biggest change is at the top: the headline and the summary.
  • Cutting is tailoring too. What this job doesn't need hides what it does.
  • The truth doesn't change. If you haven't done it, it isn't on the CV.

Samples by profession

A general CV and two tailored versions of it, based on what employers ask for in each role: accountant, sales manager, sales consultant, developer, marketing specialist, call-centre operator, administrator, HR manager, student and CV with no experience.

You might also be wondering

Where can I find a CV example in Georgian?

This page has three versions of one person's CV: the generic one and two tailored ones. There are also samples by profession: accountant, sales, developer, student and more.

Can I copy a CV example?

Take the structure and the way it's worded, but write the text from your own experience. Copied lines sound generic, and you can't back them up in the interview.

What's the difference between a generic and a tailored CV?

The experience is the same. In the tailored one, what comes first, what the headline says and the words it uses change, so it answers the job's requirements.
